Township rd was kinda fun. Hand a long
straight section of gravel I did at 70, then it went into the hills and became a
nicely linked series of rhythmic curves until it dumped me out on the
Bickleton Hwy. I went about 8 miles up to Mabton
to refuel so i would have some options as I headed south and then doubled back
and went to Bickleton.
The Bickleton Hwy is lined with blue and white
birdhouses, part of a successful local effort to restore the endangered mountain
bluebird...
I stopped in Bickleton at the Bluebird Saloon,
which claims to be the oldest tavern in Washington. Had a beer and a burger. The
beer was cold and the burger was good...
...while at the Bluebird, I discovered what lengths the local wimmen will go to
to catch a man. This was a somewhat discomforting sight to behold..
I got held up by this cattle drive between Bickleton
and Goldendale. Ended up detouring around them on some nice back roads...
I was going thru my photos from earlier in the year-came across the cattle
drives I was caught in on the way back from the Eastern Washington Advride-this
one, South of Centerville approaching Dalles Mountain, was smaller and coming
towards me. I parked and let them drive the cattle around me...
