Some of the NorthWet NARMA Pod showed up. Doug Soderland rode his Purple BMW/Red
Ural in.
I am really bad with names- I think this is Curt and Julie. The bike is a brand
new Russian Ural with the new 750 cc motor
Pictured are some of the folks lining up to go on the Mystery Ride. They left
shortly after we arrived at the KOA. Babe and I opted out of the ride, electing
to hang at the campground and visit with Jay and Tara. I understand the tour
wound thru the hops fields and vineyards surrounding Yakima with a lunch stop at
a local winery.
Pictures some of the different rigs at the rally. The little yellow Savage was
for sale at around three grand.
We slept well Sunday night and broke camp early Monday morning. We took Yakima
Valley Highway SE and turned South at Sunnyside, picking up the Bickleton
Highway out of Mabton...
The Mabton Bickleton Goldendale Highway is a favorite of local bikers, and for
good reason. Lightly patrolled, with some long straight stretches, open sweepers
and tight canyon corners, it is a delightful ride. Bickleton has a good cafe and
a historic tavern. The locals have gone to great efforts to build up the native
bluebird population. You will see bluebird houses on almost every fencepost
along the highway. Fun stuff.
I went back via Goldendale and Centerville, headed down the Lyle Centerville
Highway, but at the last minute decided to hop up to Dalles Mt. on O'Brien Rd.
O'Brien Road is pretty rough, but the views were well worth the trouble.
Wildflowers were everywhere; daisies, phlox, entire fields of lupine and balsam
root. Coming down the South slope, Dalles Mountain Road was lined with fiery
mounds of poppies. Mt. Hood poked thru the storm clouds and the Columbia River
looked like slate below me. Most of the pix are still in the camera-if they turn
out I will post them later. That's it for now...

impending storm looming over the Columbia River Gorge.
